February 28th, 2011

Identifying your passion – what you do best and love to do — and putting it to work at the heart of your business is absolutely essential to creating a thriving, fulfilling business.

However, many of us have only a vague notion about what we do best.  To unleash the full potential of our passionate abilities we need to pinpoint them, deeply value them and make them the compass that guides our business evolution for life.

What’s love got to do with it?

February 14th, 2011

“The most powerful force in business is love.” Tim Sanders

Whenever I hear “It’s not personal, it’s just business,” it doesn’t sit right with me. In fact, it’s not right. For us passion-entrepreneurs our business is personal. It’s an expression of our deepest commitments, our hearts’ desires and, yes, our love. Is it okay to talk about love and business? Isn’t love too soft or idealistic to talk about in a hard-nosed business reality?

In a word, no. Love is the bedrock of our business success. Love fuels our motivation, grows rich relationships and puts power into our marketing.

A Remarkable Year

January 17th, 2011

“How do I know I’m setting the right goals?”

This time of year we’re inundated with a flood of information about goal setting. From magazine articles to tweets we’re urged to set our aim for the year.

However, most of this information misses the secret to truly fulfilling goal setting. It focuses solely on externals – the concrete, measurable outcomes we want. While it’s vitally important that we define the specific results we want, that alone isn’t enough.

Here are three simple steps to help you discover your authentic goal for this year:

“A result is not an accomplishment until it’s recognized.”
Joe Dominguez

Over the last few days, I’ve been spontaneously thinking about the past year, wondering “How’s it gone? What’s happened, really?”

This time of year offers us a powerful opportunity to take a leap forward, by pausing for a year-end debrief.

Elite athletes take time at the end of a game to replay video footage, review the plays, debrief what worked and pinpoint the next areas of growth. We can empower ourselves by doing the same thing with our businesses and our lives. A potent debrief includes three parts: savouring, celebrating and learning.

A Whole New Place

November 16th, 2010

What if you ended your year in a whole new place?

As we reach mid-November, suddenly the end of the year has popped into view. I’m crazy-busy, and it seems like everyone around me is too. We’re pulled in all directions by demands, To Do lists and dreams. (Can you relate?) When it looks like we might not get it all done, it’s easy to think “I’ll do it next year…” or “If I can just make it through to the holidays.”

This time of year holds a hidden possibility. It’s a time of tremendous power. Just like in nature, it’s the harvest season, and we have the opportunity, if we claim it, to achieve breakthrough results. We can choose – amidst all the things we could do, should do, ought to do – to focus on doing the things that will make the biggest difference and realize meaningful results.
