Where are you Stuck with your Marketing?

While this might seem like an odd question to ask at the time of year when we typically focus on dreaming, I’ve found the secret to launching yourself in a brand new way is to pinpoint what, exactly, is stopping you. When you zero in on your greatest constraint, you become empowered to design the building blocks for real progress.

There are seven common derailers that get in the way for passion-based service professionals:

  • I don’t have enough clients, and I just don’t know what to do about it.
  • I don’t know what to say. I can’t seem to connect with people.
  • People just don’t get the value of my services.
  • I don’t know enough people who need my services, and I don’t know how to meet them.
  • I don’t have the right website, business cards and marketing materials.
  • I don’t know how to sell.
  • I hate this marketing stuff and don’t want to do it. I panic and freeze just thinking about it.

For most people, the best thing they learn in coaching is that these thoughts, feelings and problems are completely normal. Most successful business owners have had them at one time or another. It doesn’t mean there is something wrong with you, or that you won’t succeed in business. Each of these derailers has an antidote. If one (or more!) of them are stopping you, there is a skill, mindset or methodology that will equip you for new success.

Let me give you an example. Early last fall, Shelley arrived for a session completely dejected and discouraged about the lack of growth in her business. As I listened, I noticed she was reciting a virtual shopping list of the common derailers. As I gradually took her through the attraction marketing formula (Attraction principles + Marketing strategies + Daily marketing actions = Continuous flow of wonderful clients) she was able to turn around each one of these statements. In fact, by the end of the year she had filled her practice and her confidence was strong.

As you envision your New Year, I invite you to courageously examine where you are stuck. Use the list of 7 Derailers to pinpoint your greatest constraint in marketing. Then, with the help of a buddy or coach, design a project that will get you unstuck, permanently.

Once you’ve made the commitment to get past these common derailers and find your own natural way to market you will be on-track for your best year yet in your business.
